This hike crosses the valley of Merveilles. The engravings of Merveilles, classified as historical monuments since 1989, are a rock book bequeathed by the shepherds of the Bronze Age.
They can be visited as part of guided tours, everyday in summer.

Description:
From the mountain hut of Merveilles (2130 m), reach the GR52 (beacon 92). Follow the trail with red and white marking which goes up by two or three zigzags, then stays on the same level up to the beacon 93 (2176 m).
At the beacon, do not take the left path ascending to the ‘Pas de l'Arpette' to continue on the GR which goes into the ‘Vallée des Merveilles'. The pathway then passes near engraving areas indicated by explanatory panels.
Continue to climb steadily along the lake of Merveilles (2294 m) and cross a first flat land. After some zigzags, the pathway will cross a second flat land to suddenly straighten up and arrive, after many zigzags, at the mountain pass of Valmasque (Baisse de Valmasque, 2549 m-beacon.94).
The return to the mountain hut of Merveilles takes place via the reverse route.
